Mabinay is an upland municipality situated 88 kilometers north of Dumaguete City right near the provincial boundary of Negros Oriental and Occidental. It is known to have some of the best cave system in the Philippines. In this municipality alone, there are bouts a hundred or more caves. To date, the South Negros Speleo, Mountain & Cave Rescue team, have already explored about 45 caves here in Mabinay and we have listed prospective caves that are to be explored this summer, when the water is low. 60 % of the caves that we explored have subterranean river and many end in siphon, nearly all dip towards the north. In the 45 caves the we explored, we selected eight (8) caves for the public to see, expore, conquer and enjoy. We classified this eight caves into three(3) levels of exploration, four (4) caves for beginners, two (2) caves for advance and (2) caves for extreme caving. The remaining 37 caves, we leave them alone and let the cave and its dwellers enjoy their undisturbed environment.
