Mt. Talinis & Mt. Kanlaon A mountain is not just a mass of rock and earth rising above the plain; it is a landmark which people have seen for centuries. Fire up your imagination by stepping into the wild for a three day expedition up to the new crater of an active volcano. It is often said that people climb a mountain because "it is there". it is a witty remark, but it is also profoundly true. I think the real reason why people climb mountains because they feel the need to do so. They feel that they are not real master of the land until they have scaled its heights. Explore an active volcano, Mt. Kanlaon on Negros Island. This active volcano, at almost 2600 meters high, is one of the 5 highest mountains in the Philippines. It's new crater is a breathtaking 400 m deep and around 100 m wide. The trail to the top is steep and we'll climb through different vegetation zones from rich agriculture land to thick rain forest until reaching the lunar-like landscape surrounding the crater .Taking three days to explore this mountain, we'll spend one night at a pension house and the next night at our camp on the crater saddle in tnts. From there view the whole Visaya region with the clouds just a stone's throw away. |
